Mapusa: Three members of a Saligao-Guirim family died after a speeding Mahindra Thar crashed at Nemble in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district on the Mumbai-Goa national highway on Monday afternoon.Police said the driver lost control while negotiating a turn in the ghat section when they were travelling to Bhirwande-Kankavali.Shrimati Nanodkar, 58, a Guirim panch, and her sister Vilasini Satardekar, 54, died while being taken to a local hospital. Shrimati’s husband, Pandurang, 65, succumbed to injuries during treatment, Sawantwadi police said.Their son, Sunny, who is critically injured, and co-passenger Ujjwala Kambli, 48, were shifted to the GMC.Police said the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle while attempting to overtake along the Earandakwadi-Nemale stretch, causing the SUV to veer off the road and crash into a structure.The impact of the fall left the vehicle completely mangled. Before the emergency services personnel and police could arrive at the accident spot, the locals rushed to help the Thar occupants, but some time was lost in removing the injured from the SUV as it was badly damaged, police said.Sawantwadi police, led by Inspector Amol Chavan, have registered a case and initiated investigation into the accident.
