Thane boy dies of suspected electrocution; local residents protest, demand action over complaints of exposed live wires

Thane: Tension gripped Indira Nagar in Thane’s Wagle Estate area late Monday night after a six-year-old boy died of suspected electrocution near his residence. Hundreds of protesting residents gathered outside the local police station, alleging negligence by power department officials and demanding strict action over reported complaints of exposed or stray live wires.According to the police, the boy stepped out of his ground-plus-one chawl home around 10pm to fetch bedsheets from the first floor when he came into contact with an iron grill allegedly carrying live current possibly due to a stray wire. He suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed on the spot.The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.Police have registered an accidental death case. Senior police inspector Gulzarilal Fadtare said further action would depend on the report of the electrical inspector, who examined the site on Tuesday.
