Margao: Tension flared in Nuvem on Tuesday during a panchayat inspection of a construction project at Kirbhat, prompting police intervention after a confrontation at the site.Nuvem sarpanch Freeda D’Sa alleged that she was obstructed while carrying out the official inspection and that a woman at the site attempted to assault her. The inspection was conducted in the presence of the panchayat secretary, members and local residents.D’Sa said opposition to the project stemmed from concerns that additional construction would put pressure on the village’s water and electricity infrastructure. She said the panchayat was bound to follow due process and could reject the proposal only on valid grounds.According to D’Sa, the inspection found that the applicant had complied with key requirements, including road width norms, a composting facility and a no-objection certificate from the electricity department. However, the applicant was asked to obtain the necessary NOC for water supply.She alleged that an argument over the project’s FAR escalated when a woman confronted her during the inspection.Police later arrived at the site and defused the situation.
