Jaipur: A junior accountant was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly killing his landlord with a cement brick a day ago during a dispute over vacating a rented house in Mansarovar, police said. The accused fled after the murder and hid at a relative’s house, where police arrested him.The accused, identified as Mahesh Sharma, told police during interrogation that he fled in fear after seeing the landlord’s body. Police said the two had been arguing over the refund of advance rent and vacating the house. DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Verma said the incident took place on Rajat Path, where Deepak Kulshreshtha (54) was killed Thursday evening. Kulshreshtha had been living with his mother after his divorce and worked as a consultant with a private company in Gurgaon.Kulshreshtha owned two houses on Rajat Path. He lived in one, while the other, around 400 metres away, had been rented to Sharma, a junior accountant with housing board. Sharma had been living there with his sister for around three years under a rental agreement, after undergoing police verification.Police said the rented house was old and Kulshreshtha wanted to demolish and rebuild it and had asked Sharma to vacate the property, leading to arguments between the two over the past two to three months.SHO (Mansarovar) Satish Chand said Sharma vacated the house on Sept 1 and returned around 5.30pm Thursday to hand over the keys. Kulshreshtha arrived a short while later, and the two began arguing over the advance amount not being returned in full. The argument escalated into a fight on the porch that led to the Kulshreshtha’s death.
