Temple-style nagar nigam bldg to be modern, eco-friendly

Varanasi: The proposed state of the art eco-friendly building of Nagar Nigam will be designed like a temple, in keeping with the holy city tag of Kashi and foundation stone of the Mini Sadan was laid during Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s two-day visit to the city on Tuesday. Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal said the new building will be constructed on the site of the existing Nagar Nigam building, spread over approximately 11,718 sq metres, at an estimated cost of Rs 97 crore. The building will comprise ground plus three floors. Designed in temple style, the building will bear religious symbols such as the trishul (trident). Based on the ‘green building’ concept, with lower operational and maintenance costs, the building has been designed to remain less dependent on external resources and to meet independently its basic requirements such as energy and water, with solar panels, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation and other modern technologies.The new building has special provision for civic amenities alongside administrative functions. The 4th floor will be the office complex, with administrative offices and a VIP waiting lounge. The first and second floors will have a Sadan chamber with seating capacity for 180 people. A multipurpose hall with a capacity to seat 300 people will be built on ground floor.In addition, the building will house a post office, police station, bank, cash counter, shops, Public information department, canteen, male and female meeting halls and offices of various nagar nigam departments. The basement will provide parking for approximately 215 four-wheelers and 145 two-wheelers.
