Telangana to resume fine rice distribution at FP shops from today

Hyderabad: After a three-month hiatus, fair price (FP) shops will resume distributing fine rice from Wednesday all over the state.Earlier, the govt had given a fine rice quota of three months — April May and June — to ration card holders following a directive from the central govt. The three month quota was given in April itself.Following a record paddy production and procurement, the civil supplies department now has a ready stock of 2.15 lakh metric tonne (LMT) of fine rice positioned across fair price shops statewide.Civil supplies commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said as many as 1.06 crore families, having 3.41 crore members on the ration cards, are eligible to take the fine rice under the public distribution system in the state for July.“By pre-positioning the 2.15 lakh metric tonne of fine rice buffer stock early, govt wants to ensure that eligible families face minimum wait time at the FP shops,” he said.Stephen Raveendra has directed that all digital transactions and biometric authentications be monitored in real time. All FP shops should utilise electronic point of sale (ePoS) systems, guaranteeing zero supply diversions and absolute transparency for the public, he added.
