Hyderabad: Telangana govt is planning to develop three new aviation facilities across the state, with the foundation stone for the proposed Warangal airfield scheduled to be laid next month, said the minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, N Uttam Kumar Reddy.Addressing the inaugural session of Aeromart Hyderabad 2026, the minister said a second airfield at Adilabad would be developed as a dual-use civil and military aviation facility. He added that the state govt is also in discussions with the Centre to establish another airfield at Kothagudem, and the proposal is expected to receive final approval soon.Delivering the address, G Satheesh Reddy, Member of the National Security Advisory Board and former chairman of DRDO, underscored India’s growing importance in the global aerospace and defence landscape and encouraged greater collaboration between international companies and Indian industry.“The world is looking at India. The growth in manufacturing, exports and innovation is creating unprecedented opportunities for industry. Hyderabad has developed into a vibrant aerospace and defence ecosystem and is well positioned to play a leading role in global supply chains,” he said.Highlighting Telangana’s growing aerospace ecosystem, Uttam said the state has emerged as a preferred investment destination for leading aerospace nations, including the US, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Israel and Canada. He noted that Telangana is currently home to more than 1,500 specialised MSMEs that manufacture components for the aerospace, defence and space sectors.Listing recent milestones, the minister said Telangana last month laid the foundation stone for ITP Aero’s manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, marking Spain’s first aerospace manufacturing investment in India. He also recalled that only a day earlier, the govt inaugurated FTG Aerospace’s manufacturing facility at GMR Aerospace Park, representing the first Canadian aerospace company to establish operations in Telangana.“Several globally acclaimed aerospace products are already being manufactured in Telangana. These include cabins for the US presidential helicopter produced by Tata Sikorsky Aerospace, fuselages for Apache attack helicopters manufactured by Boeing, wings for the F-16 fighter aircraft produced by Lockheed Martin, and complex aero-engine components and MRO systems developed by Safran, GE Aerospace and Honeywell. Products carrying the ‘Made in Telangana’ label today fly on some of the world’s most advanced aircraft,” he said.
