Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association has urged Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to ensure greater representation for advocates of Telangana origin in appointments to the Telangana high court.On Thursday, a delegation met the CJI as well as Justices PS Narasimha, PV Sanjay Kumar and SVN Bhatti of the Supreme Court, and submitted a representation along with a resolution unanimously passed by the association’s extraordinary general body on July 15.Besides seeking greater representation in judicial appointments, the delegation led by association president S Surender Reddy requested that the sanctioned strength of judges in the Telangana HC be increased from 42 to 60. It also urged that all existing vacancies be filled at the earliest, including by repatriating judges who were transferred from the Telangana HC.The delegation — comprising vice-president DL Pandu, secretary P Shravan Kumar Goud, joint secretary P Krishna Keertana, treasurer Balaji Banoth and other committee members — said advocates of Telangana origin have not received adequate representation in appointments to the high court Bench.It requested the CJI to consider eligible practising advocates from Telangana for elevation to the Bench while ensuring social justice and equitable representation for all sections of society.
