Techie loses over Rs 2 lakh in sextortion scam | Hyderabad News



Hyderabad: Fraudsters extorted Rs 2.51 lakh from a 25-year-old software engineer from Kothapet after recording his nude video during a WhatsApp call with a woman he met on a dating app. Following the victim’s complaint, the Malkajgiri cybercrime police registered a case on Monday.The victim received a request on a dating app on April 18 from a woman identifying herself as Siksha. She later started chatting with the victim on WhatsApp.During a video call on April 18, the woman appeared nude and forced the victim to do the same. The victim’s nude video interaction was recorded without his consent. The victim was then made to access a Telegram account, compromising all his phone contacts.The fraudsters then threatened to circulate the video among his contacts and initially extorted Rs 65,000 from him. Despite this payment, the fraudsters continued to blackmail him and forced him to take out loans from various apps.Police said the victim made multiple transactions totalling Rs 2.51 lakh on April 26. When he refused to pay any more, the accused shared his nude video with some of his contacts.Based on the complaint of the victim, cybercrime police of Malkajgiri registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act on Monday.
