Hyderabad: One of India’s largest artificial intelligence data centre campuses is all set to come up in Hyderabad with TCS HyperVault, a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), announcing plans to invest Rs 70,000 crore for a gigawatt-scale facility here. It will cater to frontier AI companies like OpenAI, hyperscalers and global enterprises.TCS has been allocated 264 acres for the project at Bharat Future City that is expected to create about 7,000 direct and indirect jobs across technical, construction, engineering and operations roles. The project is expected to become functional within 18 to 24 months.HyperVault CEO and managing director Deepesh Kiran Nanda said the campus would be designed for high rack-density compute, liquid cooling, large power blocks and next-generation GPU systems. He said the facility would support future advances in AI hardware. “This will be the first time that India will witness high rack density compute of more than 170 kW. The data centre will be on a par or even ahead of anything that has been built globally,” he said.The campus, to be developed in phases based on customer demand and evolving technology requirements, is expected to incorporate green energy and water-neutral design principles. It is being designed for high-density GPU deployments and will support AI training, inference and advanced computing workloads, TCS said.The investment was announced after a high-level TCS delegation led by its CEO & managing director K Krithivasan met Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy at the secretariat on Saturday afternoon and exchanged MoUs. The announcement comes months after the chief minister met Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran at Davos.“Future City is reality. My dream is coming true,” said the CM, urging the TCS team to target inauguration of the project by Telangana Formation Day on June 2, 2028. He said TCS already employed more than 83,000 people in Hyderabad and urged the company to take this number beyond one lakh.Revanth said the state had maintained policy continuity for nearly three decades despite changes in govts. He said Telangana is not competing with neighbouring states but with economies such as China, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.The CM also linked the project to Telangana’s long-term economic goals, saying the state aimed to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.He said AI infrastructure would be critical to that ambition, while the project would also generate secure blue-collar employment in areas such as electrical work, plumbing, water systems and data centre operations.IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu said the project showed Telangana’s ability to move quickly on major investments. “Telangana means business. We move at speed and with clarity of process that matches the expectations of the tech and corporate world,” he said. He said the project would make Hyderabad a world-scale AI infrastructure hub.Krithivasan said HyperVault was part of TCS’ “infrastructure-to-intelligence” strategy and that Hyderabad’s scale, talent base and govt support made it the natural choice for the investment that will be made by TCS along with its partners.OpenAI’s compute CTO Uday Rudraraju, who joined virtually, said the scale and ambition of the project were significant and reflected India’s growing role in foundational AI infrastructure.
