Mumbai: The Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) has been ranked 21st among the world’s top 50 marathon brands and won the ‘Strongest Economic Impact – Emerging Markets’ award in the 2026 Brand Finance Marathons Top 50 study. The recognition highlights the event’s growing international standing and its contribution to Mumbai’s economy through tourism, hospitality, retail and other sectors. The second edition of Brand Finance’s annual study assessed more than 75 marathons across nine markets, including India, the US, the UK, Germany, France, Canada, Brazil, Japan and Australia. It estimated that the world’s top 50 marathons generated a combined economic impact of $6 billion for their host cities in 2025.Vivek Singh, joint managing director of Procam International, which promotes the race, said the recognition reflected the marathon’s evolution into a major sporting property.“Marathons are no longer just races; they are engines of participation, city pride and economic activity. The Tata Mumbai Marathon has shown what an indigenously grown sporting property can become when purpose, scale and community come together,” Singh said.Tata Sons’ head of corporate brand and marketing, Adrion Terron, said the marathon celebrated Mumbai’s resilience and inclusive spirit while enhancing the city’s profile as a destination for major sporting events.Brand Finance’s head of sports services, Scott Moore, said the growth of marathon running in Asia, particularly India, reflected the rising influence of mass-participation sport. He noted that the Mumbai event had helped strengthen the country’s running ecosystem, attract commercial investment and generate economic value.
