Tarn Taran: A man from Tarn Taran and two of his relatives from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur have been missing in Nepal since a devastating flash flood swept the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli river system on Aug 26.Shamsher Singh Sandhu of Rattoke village near Chohla Sahib and his relatives Bhupinder Singh and Rashpal Singh were in Nepal when the disaster struck. Shamsher was working as a crane operator at the Trishuli Upper Power House Project, according to the family.Kulwant Singh, an uncle of Shamsher, said the three had lost contact after the floods. “Shamsher last spoke to his children and other family members over WhatsApp on Aug 25. Since then, we have repeatedly tried to contact him, but his phone has remained unreachable. There has also been no contact with Bhupinder and Rashpal,” he said.According to the family, Bhupinder was also working as a crane operator, while Rashpal was a truck driver. They were at the hydropower project when the flood hit and their whereabouts have remained unknown since.Family members have travelled to Nepal but have not been able to trace the three men, Kulwant said.Shamsher is married and has two daughters and a son. His family has approached the village panchayat, Tarn Taran deputy commissioner and the local MLA, seeking help in tracing the men and taking up the matter with the Centre and the Indian mission in Nepal.The disaster has killed hundreds and left thousands missing, with hydropower projects and other infrastructure among the facilities badly hit. Nepal’s official figures have continued to rise as rescue teams search affected areas.
