Tamil Nadu doctors' body calls for surgical castration of sexual predators

CHENNAI: Tenkasi association of government doctors has called on the Tamil Nadu government to enact legislation mandating the surgical removal of the genitalia of men convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering women and children.The Tenkasi district unit of the association passed the special resolution at its general body meeting, urging lawmakers to consider total penilectomy and chemical or surgical castration as punishments to be imposed alongside court verdicts in such cases.The resolution was moved under the chairmanship of district secretary Dr R Jeslin, who serves as association’a state secretary (DMS), citing the severe psychological toll that post-mortem examinations of sexual assault and murder victims take on government doctors as a driving motivation.“Doctors who conduct autopsies on such victims suffer unspeakable grief and severe mental distress,” the resolution stated, calling the proposed measure urgently necessary for the times.The association also demanded the government enact strong
