Rajkot: A revenue clerk (talati) was allegedly assaulted and threatened by a resident while discharging election duties at the Jamkandorna mamlatdar’s office in Rajkot district on Wednesday. The complainant, Pushparajsinh Chudasama, filed an FIR at Jamkandorna police station against a local man identified only as Nilesh. According to the FIR, around 3.30pm. Chudasama was in his office with three colleagues — Sumit Jaru, Haresh Gohil and Jayesh Vaghela — carrying out tasks related to the local body elections. The accused, Nilesh, entered the office and insisted that Chudasama accept his application immediately. When Chudasama said he was tied up with election work and told Nilesh to submit the application at the registry desk, the accused allegedly got agitated and started arguing. He also pulled out his mobile phone to record a video to pressure the officials and briefly left for the deputy mamlatdar’s office. On returning, Nilesh began banging his fists on Chudasama’s desk. When the official tried to stop him, the accused grabbed Chudasama by the collar, verbally abused him and slapped him in the face. Chudasama’s colleagues quickly broke up the altercation. Before fleeing, the accused allegedly threatened to frame Chudasama in an atrocity case and issued a death threat, saying he would “kill him today”. Chudasama reported the incident to his superiors and subsequently filed a police complaint for obstruction of a public servant’s duty and assault. Jamkandorna police officially registered the FIR under Sections 121(1), 351(3) and 352 of BNS.
