Madurai: TVK minister R Nirmalkumar on Sunday sought to play down TNCC president Manickam Tagore’s remarks that some in TVK were still functioning with a “fan-club mindset”, saying the criticism was aimed at statements made by a few “individuals” and not at chief minister C Joseph Vijay.Tagore had made the remark while responding to TVK functionaries projecting Vijay as a future PM despite being an ally of Congress, which has been positioning Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate.Responding to questions in Madurai, Nirmalkumar said, “What he said was based on interviews and remarks made by some of our ministers, among others. They were not directed at our leader.”On Tagore’s statement that TVK could become part of the INDIA bloc after securing MPs, Nirmalkumar said TVK would join hands and work with INDIA bloc after winning MPs in the next elections. He also rejected the opposition’s charge that cases were being filed against its leaders as an act of political vendetta. “No case can be registered without evidence. A case can be filed only when there is proof of wrongdoing,” he said. “There is no need for us to take revenge against them. If there is corruption or wrongdoing, action will certainly be taken,” he added.
