Hyderabad: The Telangana govt has decided to set up a Programme Monitoring Unit (PMU) and a real-time dashboard in the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department to track the implementation of welfare and development schemes from the state level down to gram panchayats. The move, initiated at the direction of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), is aimed at strengthening monitoring of flagship programmes and enabling faster intervention in areas where implementation lags. Special chief secretary M Dana Kishore issued orders on Friday for setting up the new monitoring mechanism.

The dashboard will provide real-time information on the progress of schemes at the district, mandal, and gram panchayat levels, allowing officials to identify delays and take corrective measures. The PMU will comprise IT and data professionals who will analyse implementation data on a daily basis and provide inputs to senior officials.According to the department, the new system is expected to improve accountability, transparency, and service delivery by enabling continuous monitoring of govt programmes and faster resolution of issues flagged during gram sabhas. In a parallel initiative, the department has also begun work on preparing a gram panchayat booklet to create a comprehensive database of development works, welfare schemes, public services, and infrastructure available in every village. The booklet is proposed to include details of individual and community assets, civic infrastructure, welfare benefits, and services delivered by various departments, providing a single reference document for each gram panchayat. To take forward the exercise, the govt has constituted a state-level committee headed by senior officials, besides separate committees for preparing the booklet format, training personnel, and developing the IT platform. Officials have been asked to prepare a draft in coordination with all departments for govt approval. The initiative comes as the Rural Development department seeks to strengthen data-driven governance and improve oversight of programme implementation across Telangana’s gram panchayats.
