T BJP chief slams govt for 'soft approach' on Kaleshwaram

Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao on Monday accused both Congress and BRS of engaging in “political drama” over the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme and questioned the lack of action despite findings by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).Addressing the media after paying tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary at the party office in the city, Ramchander Rao alleged that despite the NDSA pointing to serious dam safety concerns through geotechnical and other technical assessments, the Telangana govt had not initiated repair work.He alleged that the previous BRS govt had turned the Kaleshwaram project into an ‘ATM’ and accused chief minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to act against those responsible for the alleged corruption. “Apart from taking nominal action against a few officials, no concrete steps have been taken against those involved,” he said, questioning what he described as the Congress govt’s “soft approach” towards the issue. The BJP leader also criticised the functioning of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA), alleging selective enforcement against illegal constructions. He claimed that while houses belonging to the poor people were being demolished, no action was being taken against alleged illegal structures linked to AIMIM.Referring to the Fatima educational institutions, Ramchander Rao alleged that the institution had violated rules and said even the education department had informed the court that the required permissions were not in place. He claimed the high court had also made adverse observations and questioned why HYDRAA had not initiated demolition despite allegedly acknowledging the encroachment.Alleging that Congress was showing favouritism towards AIMIM, he demanded that HYDRAA act impartially and initiate action against all illegal constructions irrespective of political affiliations. He warned that BJP would launch a statewide agitation if action was not taken.
