Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari met S N Subrahmanyam, chairman and managing director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), at Kolkata airport on Saturday.The meeting, coming days after Adhikari held talks with Adani Ports MD Karan Adani, assumes significance in the backdrop of the state govt’s efforts to attract fresh investments and accelerate infrastructure development.In a post on X, Adhikari said: “I had the opportunity to hold a productive and insightful meeting with Shri S N Subrahmanyam Ji, chairman and managing director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), at Kolkata airport. During our 30-minute discussion, we focused extensively on the industrial resurgence of West Bengal.”Stating that they exchanged ideas on creating a robust ecosystem for industrial development, attracting mega investments and accelerating economic growth to generate meaningful employment opportunities for youth of the state, the CM added: “West Bengal has immense potential, and strategic collaborations with industrial leaders can play a pivotal role in transforming the state’s economic landscape.”L&T already has a footprint in the state’s information technology sector through LTIMindtree, which invested in Kolkata during the previous Trinamool govt. The company is among the major players in India’s technology and engineering sectors.This Jan, L&T was also awarded the contract for construction of a nearly 5-km long bridge over the Muriganga river to connect Sagar Island with Kakdwip. The Rs 1,670-crore bridge, named Gangasagar Setu, will provide all-weather road connectivity to Sagar Island, where the annual Gangasagar Mela is held.“During the CM’s meeting with the L&T CMD, the proposed bridge over the Muriganga also figured prominently. The project is considered crucial for improving connectivity to Sagar Island and has long been viewed as a significant infrastructure initiative for the region,” a source said, adding that the talks also focused on potential investment opportunities and key infrastructure projects.
