Noida: A fire broke out in a locked flat on the second floor of Green Street Apartment in Vaishali’s Sector 5 early on Friday.The flat owner, Sanjay Kumar, and his family were not present in the flat at the time of the incident. The fire department officials were told they had been away for a week. While there were no injuries, the family’s belongings were burnt.An official said the likely cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit.Chief fire officer Rahul Pal said they were informed of the fire around 3.40am by Kumar’s neighbours. who saw smoke coming out of the outer windows of the flat.“The flat in which the fire broke out had two iron doors because of which the fire did not spread outside. People living on the first and second floors had come out of the building while some others on the third and fourth floors did not even come to know about the fire. We evacuated the people who were living in the flats closest to Kumar’s flat,” he said.During the firefighting operation, a small gas cylinder kept in the kitchen exploded but it did not cause more damage, he added.Pal said Kumar’s mobile number could not be found and he was not informed about the incident at the flat.“The exact assessment of the damage would be possible after Sanjay Kumar returns,” Pal said.
