Silchar: A suspected NSCN (IM) cadre was apprehended in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Assam Police in Dima Hasao district on Saturday, officials said.Acting on specific intelligence about the presence of a suspected insurgent in the Mahur area, the joint team launched an operation and apprehended Deituateung Newme from Mahur Market at 4.45am . He was reportedly travelling in a shared taxi to an undisclosed destination.A 7.62 mm pistol, three rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, an Aadhaar card, a driving licence and an NSCN (IM) green card were recovered from him.Officials said preliminary verification revealed multiple addresses linked to the suspect. While his Aadhaar card listed Hajaichak in Dima Hasao as his address, his NSCN (IM) card mentioned Jaluke in Nagaland. His driving licence carried an address at Lodhi village in Haflong.The apprehended individual, along with the seized firearm, ammunition and documents, was handed over to Haflong police for further investigation and legal action.An investigation is underway to ascertain the suspect’s alleged links with the banned insurgent outfit and the purpose of his movement.
