Surat Jari association sends special rakhi to Ayodhya Ram temple

Surat: The Surat Jari Manufacturers Association (SJMA) has prepared a special Rakhi using silver and copper Jari, embellished with traditional Jardoshi embroidery, to be offered at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Raksha Bandhan.The association has sent the Rakhi to the Shree Ram Janmabhoomi temple authorities with a request that it be tied to Bhagwan Ram. According to SJMA, temple officials have received the Rakhi.The Rakhi was crafted by skilled artisans using Surat’s traditional Jari and Jardoshi techniques. A team of workers associated with the craft worked on the intricate handwork, showcasing the craftsmanship for which the city’s textile and embroidery industry is known.SJMA president Bipin Jariwala said the initiative was aimed at preserving the traditional skills associated with Jari and Jardoshi work while supporting Surat’s cottage-based manufacturing sector. He said the effort would also encourage artisans and workers who depend on the craft for their livelihood.Surat has long been a hub for Jari and decorative textile work, with the sector supporting a large artisan workforce. The association said such initiatives help showcase the craftsmanship and keep traditional handwork relevant during major cultural and religious occasions.
