Jaipur: Hundreds of students marched to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Friday, demanding the restoration of student union elections at Rajasthan University and other universities across the state. The protest, led by RU student representative Neeraj Khichar, began from Bais Godam around 11am.As the crowd swelled, protesters crossed police barricades and moved towards the Assembly. Police lathi-charged the protesters and detained several students, including Khichar. Police also seized vehicles used by the protesters, including a bus that had arrived from Didwana-Kuchaman, Khichar said.The protesters raised slogans demanding the immediate restoration of student union elections, which they said were an important platform for students to raise their concerns and participate in the democratic process.“Student union elections are not merely about choosing representatives; they are about protecting the democratic voice and rights of students. The govt must listen to the students and restore the elections without further delay,” Khichar said.
