Chennai: A day before Parliament session was set to commence, former chief minister M K Stalin returned to Chennai from England on Sunday after completing his 14-day tour. Stalin had visited England to participate in the graduation ceremony of grandson Inban Udhayanidhi.Stalin was given a rousing reception by DMK leaders and cadres at Chennai airport. Though the former chief minister, along with his family, was scheduled to reach Chennai in the morning, there was a delay and they landed here only in the night. DMK sources said Stalin had missed the connecting flight in Dubai, due to the delay of their London flight, following which they boarded another aircraft.DMK cadres and functionaries who assembled at the airport in the morning to welcome Stalin returned disappointed. However, the same crowd gathered in the evening and received him. Former ministers such as K N Nehru, R Gandhi, K Ponmudi and S Muthusamy were also present.DMK on Sunday said it has strongly insisted in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held in Delhi to allot time to discuss in Parliament about Karnataka’s bid to construct a dam across the River Cauvery at Mekedatu. The party also opposed the inclusion of the FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 in this session, it said.DMK Rajya Sabha MP, P Wilson in a post on X said, “Following the instructions of DMK president M K Stalin, during the BAC meeting for the Lok Sabha, which manages the legislative timetable and allocates time for debates and discussions in the house, we have strongly insisted allocation of time to discuss about the Karnataka state’s intention to construct the Mekadatu dam and the request of TN for formation of a tribunal in this regard.” The proposal of the neighbouring state, if it fructifies, would seriously affect the interests of the farmers and people of Tamil Nadu, he alleged.
