Mumbai: A passenger’s complaint about a stale vegetable burger has prompted Central Railway (CR) to temporarily shut an air-conditioned waiting hall and the food stall at CSMT for 10 days.The complaint was filed through Rail Madad on Aug 21 against the Namah waiting lounge stall located on the passage of platform 14. The passenger said he bought a vegetable burger for Rs 60 and after consuming it, he felt nauseated. The vendor refunded his money after he complained about the food.CR subsequently conducted an inquiry and inspected the burger that was returned by the passenger. Its report said the complaint was found to be genuine.During the inquiry, the stall vendor, Nikesh, told officials that the burger had been supplied by the Namah waiting lounge around 11am. The passenger approached the stall around 4.30pm and was served the burger.The burger that was returned had been discarded in a dustbin but was produced before railway officials during the inquiry. On inspection, it was found to have a foul odour and appeared to be stale. Officials noted that the burger, containing tomatoes and mayonnaise, had been wrapped in transparent film. The inquiry report concluded that the burger had been kept out for a long period before being served to the passenger. It, therefore, held the complaint to be genuine.Acting on the findings, CR on Aug 24 ordered the temporary closure of the AC waiting hall, along with the food stall, for 10 days. The order said the closure would remain in effect from Aug 21-30.The closure order was issued to Namah Enterprises, the operator of the facility, with the approval of the competent authority.
