Sribhumi clerk found dead with hands, legs tied; whiff of robbery

Silchar: A 62-year-old legal clerk was found dead on his bed with his hands and legs tied and his mouth gagged at his home at Maizgram in Sribhumi district, police sources said. Investigators are probing whether he was killed during a suspected robbery.The deceased has been identified as Sushanta Roy Kar, who had been living alone in the house for several years.Sources said Kar’s nephew visited the house on Saturday morning and repeatedly called out to him. When there was no response, neighbours gathered at the spot and looked through a window. They found Kar lying motionless on the bed, with his hands and legs tied and his mouth gagged.Police were alerted, and a team rushed to the house. Most doors were found closed, but a rear door was open, sources said.The rooms appeared to have been ransacked, with household articles lying scattered. Cupboards and other storage spaces also showed signs of having been searched, leading investigators to suspect robbery as a possible motive.Police are examining whether intruders entered the house on Friday night, overpowered Kar and tied him up before searching the premises for valuables. Investigators are also trying to determine if Kar was assaulted and whether anything was taken from the house.A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence. A DSP, a magistrate and other officials also visited the spot.Kar’s body was sent to Sribhumi Civil Hospital for autopsy.Police said the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation. The autopsy report is expected to establish the exact cause of death, while investigators are working to determine whether the suspected break-in and Kar’s death were directly linked.
