TNNLudhiana: A speeding Hyundai Verna rammed into a scooter from behind at Issa Nagri Chowk in Ludhiana on Thursday morning, killing a vegetable seller and leaving at least two other persons injured. The impact was so severe that the motorcyclist reportedly died on the spot.Sources said the accident occurred around 8:15am in the area under Division Number Three police station. The deceased, Jagtar Singh Gosha, was a resident of Sasrali Colony, around 20 kilometres from Ludhiana.Sources said Jagtar had come to sell saag in the city on a scooter. When he reached Issa Nagri, a speeding car hit his two-wheeler from behind with great force, knocking him onto the road before running over him.An eyewitness, Ramesh Bangar of Ajit Nagar, said the youth was learning to drive and had been driving rashly on the road in front of his house. He said the car first hit the vegetable vendor’s scooter, killing him on the spot, then hit an elderly person, another scooter being driven by a woman and finally another scooter before hitting a wall and stopping.He added that two persons, including the driver, were in the car.According to Bangar, the duo had arrived in another car before the accident, and he had advised them to learn driving on a ground or at a designated place. He added that after the accident, he checked the details and found that the vehicle involved had been challaned for Rs 10,000 on Thursday.Sources said angry residents caught the driver after the accident and allegedly slapped him. Bangar informed the police, and a team from Division Number Three reached the spot. SHO Inspector Gurjeet Singh said the accused, Tamanjot Singh of Field Ganj, had been apprehended.CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing the car hitting vehicles.Box 2: Similar incidentsOn June 29 last year, a speeding car ran over a street food vendor and injured three others on Bhamian Road in a hit-and-run incident. The incident was also captured on a CCTV camera installed near the spot. On Feb 26 this year, a 16-year-old fruit vendor died and another was seriously injured after an SUV rammed into their carts near Chowkiman toll plaza.
