Gurgaon: A bitter power struggle erupted within MCM on Monday, with senior deputy mayor Praveen Yadav launching a scathing attack on Manesar mayor Inderjeet Kaur Yadav over the inspection of vehicles deployed for door-to-door waste collection.Praveen accused Inderjeet of converting an official inspection exercise into a “social media trial” aimed at gaining political mileage rather than ensuring accountability in sanitation operations.He alleged that the mayor “misused govt machinery” and disrupted the inspection for “personal interests”. The mayor did not respond despite multiple attempts, and MCM Commissioner Pradeep Singh too could not be reached for comment.Addressing mediapersons, the senior deputy mayor alleged that the MCM commissioner constituted a committee to inspect the waste collection vehicles, but the process was derailed on Sunday when the mayor arrived at the site accompanied by nearly 200 supporters.“The inspection was meant to be conducted by the authorised committee and officials. Instead, it was reduced to a spectacle. No one was allowed to speak, and the sole objective appeared to be finding faults for publicity,” Praveen alleged.He claimed that individuals accompanying the mayor misbehaved with him and municipal officials during the inspection and even issued threats. “The entire exercise was carried out in an arbitrary and personalised manner, completely bypassing institutional procedures,” he said.The controversy has now taken a serious turn with allegations surfacing against the mayor’s husband, Rakesh Yadav. The agency associated with the waste collection work has also alleged that Rakesh demanded a “partnership” or share in the operations, charges that are likely to further deepen the political storm within the civic body.Praveen claimed that the decision to inspect the vehicles was formally approved during a meeting of the MCM along with councillors, and a committee had been assigned the task of submitting a report to the commissioner. “The focus should have been on transparency and improving sanitation services for residents. Instead, the mayor sidelined public interest and turned the exercise into a political event,” he alleged.The escalating confrontation between the mayor and the senior deputy mayor exposed sharp divisions within the Manesar civic body, raising concerns over governance, administrative functioning and political interference in municipal operations.
