Gorakhpur: Hundreds of Samajwadi Party workers staged a protest in Gorakhpur on Saturday, raising concerns over law and order, alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, farmers’ issues, and the reported theft of offerings at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.Led by district president Brijesh Kumar Gautam, party workers assembled at Pant Park near Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University. Many protesters wore black armbands, while some covered their mouths with black strips as a mark of protest against state govt.The demonstrators marched from Pant Park to the district magistrate’s office, where they submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor through an SDM. The memorandum highlighted rising crime, shortage of fertilisers and seeds for farmers, alleged paper leaks in recruitment examinations and demanded an impartial probe into the reported theft of temple offerings in Ayodhya.Addressing party workers, Gautam alleged that incidents of kidnapping, murder and sexual violence had increased in Gorakhpur, creating a sense of insecurity among residents. He also referred to the recent escape of an inmate from Gorakhpur district jail and questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement.The SP member said repeated paper leak incidents were affecting the future of lakhs of aspirants, while farmers were struggling to obtain essential agricultural inputs on time. He warned that the party would intensify its agitation if the demands were not addressed.
