Solar power transforms Bahraich village into rural devpt model

Lucknow/Bahraich: A remote village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district is emerging as a model for rural transformation through renewable energy, with Tata Power subsidiary TP Renewable Microgrid Limited (TPRMG) showcasing how decentralized clean-energy solutions can improve livelihoods, agriculture and small businesses.Sunehri Chowraha, a village in Bahraich, has become a benchmark for the company’s integrated rural energy approach, which combines solar-powered microgrids, irrigation systems, energy-efficient appliances and productive-use equipment to support economic activity in underserved areas. The initiative is helping households, farmers and village-level enterprises gain access to reliable electricity, reducing dependence on diesel-powered equipment and lowering energy costs. Improved power supply has enabled local businesses to extend operating hours, adopt modern machinery and improve productivity.TPRMG CEO Manoj Kumar Gupta said energy access alone was not enough and that the focus was on creating sustainable rural economies.“Energy independence goes beyond providing access to electricity. It is about enabling rural communities to become economically self-reliant by improving agricultural productivity, powering local enterprises and creating sustainable livelihoods,” he said. For farmers, solar-powered irrigation systems are providing an alternative to diesel pumps, cutting irrigation expenses and improving access to water. The clean-energy ecosystem is also supporting dairy entrepreneurs through technologies such as bulk milk coolers and milk-processing equipment, helping preserve milk quality and strengthen the rural dairy value chain.According to TPRMG, the model supports a range of income-generating activities, including jaggery production, spice processing, flour mills, oil expellers and other rural enterprises that traditionally relied on expensive and polluting fuel sources. The company said its renewable-energy interventions have benefited more than 18,000 customers and rural enterprises across Uttar Pradesh. It is also promoting the use of energy-efficient technologies, including BLDC fans, high-efficiency motors, LED lighting and refrigeration systems, helping consumers reduce electricity consumption and operating costs.
