PUNE: Police investigating the murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal have visited a temple in Rajasthan to verify reports that the two accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, secretly married there. Separately, Maharashtra’s food regulator has ordered the closure of a spice and dry fruits shop run by Goyal’s family over alleged violations of food safety norms. The two developments come as both accused remain in judicial custody in Yerawada Central Jail in connection with Agarwal’s murder. A team of the Pune Rural Police visited the Khatu Shyam Temple in Rajasthan to verify reports of an alleged marriage between Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, a senior police official said on Wednesday. According to the official, investigators sought CCTV footage from the temple premises as part of the verification process. However, no CCTV footage was found. Reports had earlier claimed that Goyal and Chaudhary had allegedly solemnised a secret marriage at the temple. Police have not officially confirmed the alleged marriage and said the verification is part of the ongoing investigation. Both Goyal and Chaudhary are currently lodged in Yerawada Central Jail under judicial custody. Their present judicial custody is scheduled to end on Thursday, when they are expected to be produced before a court for further orders. Meanwhile, Ketan Agarwal’s mother, Rakhi Agarwal, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for justice and his personal intervention in the case. Describing the impact of her son’s death, she wrote: “My son was brutally murdered, and with him, meri poori duniya chali gayi (My whole world is gone). Every corner of our home reminds me of him. His room, his clothes, his photographs, and the silence that has replaced his laughter remind me every day that he will never come back.” She also said the family suffered another loss after the murder, revealing that Ketan’s grandfather died less than three weeks later, unable to bear the shock. In a separate development, Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a notice to a spice and dry fruits shop owned by Goyal’s family, directing it to stop business operations until further orders. The shop, operated by M/s BG Goyal and Company and located in Pune’s Market Yard, was inspected by FDA officials, who collected four food samples, including turmeric powder of the “Sant” and “Sadhu” brands, sesame seeds and soybean chunks. According to the FDA, 4,172kg of these products, valued at Rs 8.14 lakh, was seized over suspected labelling violations and possible adulteration. The regulator said the firm had failed to comply with certain mandatory provisions under the Food Safety and Standards Act and had also not made necessary corrections to its licence details. “Considering the violations, a notice has been issued directing the firm to stop its business activities until further orders,” an official said. Goyal and her boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, are accused of pushing her fiancé, Ketan Agarwal, off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district during a trek on June 18, leading to his death.
