Hyderabad: Aerospace and defence player Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has bagged a nearly $105 million (around ₹1,013 crore) export order from a North American customer for manufacturing and supply of 1.47 lakh next-generation 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies. The contract has to be executed over the next six to 12 months and marks Sigma’s latest move up the artillery ammunition value chain after earlier contracts for 155mm fuzes and M107 artillery shell bodies, the Hyderabad-based company said on Monday.Base bleed projectiles use a gas-generating unit at the rear to reduce drag and turbulence in flight, extending range while remaining compatible with standard 155mm artillery systems used globally.Sigma said the programme will involve precision-engineered projectile casings for integration into extended-range ammunition systems.Sigma Advanced Systems CEO and executive director Sunil Kalidindi said the contract reflected global customer confidence in Sigma’s execution quality and ability to scale complex defence programmes.
