Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has condemned the killing of a couple inside a gurdwara in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.In a statement issued here on Wednesday, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami expressed outrage over the killing of Jagannath and Asma Vanti, who were serving at a gurdwara in Mardan city when they were allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants.The attack, carried out within the premises of a Sikh place of worship, has sent shockwaves through the Sikh community on both sides of the border.Condemning the killings, Dhami said the perpetrators had violated the sanctity of a sacred religious institution by targeting an innocent couple engaged in religious service.“The murder of a Sikh couple inside a gurdwara is not merely a criminal act but a grave assault on religious freedom and the security of minorities,” he said.The SGPC chief said the attack had once again raised serious questions about the safety of the community members and the protection of Sikh religious sites in Pakistan. He urged the Pakistan govt to launch an investigation into the matter, arrest the culprits without delay and ensure exemplary punishment for those responsible.Dhami expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.
