SGI posts 23% premium growth in Q1

Jaipur: Shriram General Insurance Company (SGI) reported a strong first quarter for FY27, outpacing industry growth across its core segments. Premium income rose 23% year-on-year to Rs 1,180 crore, compared with Rs 960 crore in Q1FY26, well ahead of the industry’s 11% growth.Motor insurance, the company’s largest portfolio, surged 25% against the industry’s 14% rise. Personal accident premiums grew 47%, in line with sector trends, while health insurance expanded sharply at 211%. Net profit increased 5% to Rs 131 crore. Assets under management climbed 8.9% to Rs 14,573 crore.Anil Agarwal, MD & CEO, said, “We remain focused on expanding our distribution network by recruitment of financial advisors, while maintaining disciplined underwriting, which has enabled us to outpace industry growth in Q1 FY27. At the same time, our commitment towards efficient claims settlement reinforces customer trust.”SGI’s distribution strength under its phygital model drove growth, with 5,176 new financial advisors added in the quarter, taking the total to 1,10,102. Branches expanded to 291 from 279 a year earlier. Active policies rose to 72 lakh from 68 lakh.
