Chandigarh: A team of health officials from Panipat on Sunday unearthed a racket involved in sex determination tests running under the guise of a private clinic from a house in Karnal. The raiding party also recovered a hand-held ultrasound machine from the person apprehended from the spot.The operation was carried out by PNDT prevention team from Panipat, led by PNDT Nodal Officer Dr Lalit. Acting on a tip-off, Dr Lalit laid a trap to apprehend one accused, identified as Sanjay. Prelimiminary investigations revealed that Sanjay was involved in this racket for past over one year. “The team prepared a decoy, an expectant mother, and the deal was struck for Rs 30,000 with Sanjay. Sanjay shared his details with the decoy and called her to Karnal. Acting on the directions given by Sanjay, the decoy was called to Namastey Chowk of Karnal. Therefrom, she along with her kin were taken to Sanjay’s place in Mangal Colony,” said a source. “The accused was caught red-handed and the material too was seized from the spot. Now, FDA team and other teams are examining other medicines lying at his premises.
