Ludhiana: Ludhiana’s Rahon Road has been severely damaged by continuous sewage overflow, deep potholes, and stagnant water for six months, sparking intense public outcry and threats of a protest by local leaders.Residents, shopkeepers, and commuters travelling toward local colonies or Nawanshahr report that choked sewers have created dangerous conditions even in dry weather, causing commuters to lose their balance and severely harming local businesses.Former councillor Varinder Sehgal issued a 10-day ultimatum to municipal authorities, threatening to launch a Jantar Mantar-style “satyagraha” protest on Rahon Road alongside affected residents if the issue remains unaddressed.Joining the criticism, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former East constituency MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon noted, “This road remains full of water even without rain and when it rains then there is serious problem for the commuters. There are many localities on this road and its condition is really serious. The authorities should at least fix the potholes.”A municipal corporation official attributed the chronic stagnation to excess sewage discharged from nearby colonies and villages, explaining that the existing network is overburdened and requires a separate pipeline, with slow drainage at Basti Jodhewal Chowk further worsening the backup.
