Kullu: The Himachal Pradesh govt has ordered a temporary deferment of up to 30% monthly salaries of senior state officials for six months.A notification issued on Saturday by finance secretary Ashish Singhmar said the decision was taken in view of the “prevailing financial circumstances” and “in the interest of prudent fiscal management.” The measure takes effect from April’s salary to be paid in May.The 30% deferment applies to chief secretary, additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, director general of police, additional director general of police, principal chief conservator of forests, principal chief conservator of forests and additional principal chief conservator of forests. A 20% deferment will apply to secretaries, heads of departments, inspector general of police, deputy inspector general of police, senior superintendent of police, police officers up to the level of SPs, chief conservator of forests, conservator of forests and other forest officials up to the DFO level. According to the notification, statutory deductions such as income tax, NPS, and GPF contributions will continue to be calculated on full salaries to avoid future accounting issues. The order will also be applicable on boards, corporations, PSUs, autonomous bodies, universities and societies that receive grant-in-aid or any budgetary support from the state govt. For employees, who are repaying loans, the deferment will be calculated on the pay remaining after the deduction of the loan instalment amount and they will have to submit an undertaking to their drawing and disbursing officers (DDOs). “This measure is temporary and being undertaken to manage financial resources efficiently,” the notification added.
