Gurgaon: A school bus and a Fortuner got submerged in the Old Faridabad railway underpass in separate incidents on Friday, after continuous rain left the stretch several feet underwater. Police and locals rescued the bus staff and an elderly man trapped inside the SUV. There were no children on the bus.The first incident occurred on Friday afternoon, when the school bus entered the waterlogged underpass. As water levels rose around the vehicle, the staff climbed onto its roof to save themselves. Police reached the spot on being alerted and safely rescued them.The second incident took place around 7pm, when the Fortuner entered the underpass despite locals trying to stop the driver, by which point around 25-30 feet of water had accumulated. Police said the SUV entered from the Women Police Station, Sector 21 side. The vehicle got stuck in the deep water, and the driver — aged around 60 — began drowning after the car’s manual controls stopped functioning, locking the doors and windows and trapping him inside.Locals and police launched a rescue operation, during which a youth broke the SUV’s window with his foot to pull the driver out, injuring his leg in the process. A fire department vehicle also joined the operation. The driver was taken to a private hospital near Neelam Chowk and put on ventilator support. The Fortuner remained submerged in the underpass, with efforts underway to pull it out.Delivery worker electrocuted in SehatpurSeparately, a 26-year-old delivery worker died after coming into contact with an electric pole in Sehatpur on Friday evening, amid heavy rain and waterlogging in the area.Ramkhelawan, who worked for Blinkit and lived in Chetan Market, was riding his motorcycle towards Sehatpur around 5pm to deliver goods when he came into contact with the pole and suffered a shock, according to witnesses. He fell on the road along with his motorcycle and died at the spot.As electricity was still present in the area, people initially could not approach him. They later used a stick to move him away from the source before taking him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police reached the spot, sent the body for postmortem. Ramkhelawan was originally from Uttar Pradesh. His parents had died, and he is survived by two sisters.
