Hyderabad: A burglar who stole 10 tola gold and diamond jewellery from the house of a businessman at Jubilee Hills was traced and arrested by the police in Goa. Though the accused had covered his face with a mask, police identified him from CCTV footage based on a scar on his forehead. On Aug 31, Jubilee Hills police received a complaint from Neelu Kaur (47), wife of businessman Shailender Singh Bagga, alleging that an unidentified offender broke into their house on Road No. 10 in Jubilee Hills between 3 am and 4 am.“The burglar entered the house and stole about 10 tola of jewellery, including a green emerald diamond ring, two gold bracelets, a blue ‘meenakari’ necklace and earrings, a gold kada, an emerald stone necklace, a gold necklace leaf and gold choker and earrings. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera installed at my residence,” the complainant told police.Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 305(a) (theft in a building) of the BNS on Aug 31. When police verified the CCTV footage, they noticed an offender entering the house. “The accused had covered his face with a mask. But on closer observation, we spotted a scar mark above his left eyebrow. Our crime team constables identified him as Gowresh (27), an old offender who was involved in a similar offence in 2016 in Jubilee Hills. He recently committed another offence in Madhapur,” said a Jubilee Hills police officer.A police team went to his residence at Indira Nagar in Banjara Hills, but Gowresh had already fled to his native place, Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam. Police subsequently tracked his movements to Goa and picked him up from a casino. “Gowresh sold part of the stolen jewellery to gamble in Goa. We are in the process of recovering the stolen items,” Jubilee Hills police said.
