Salman Khan‘s slate for the next couple of years is shaping up to be one of the busiest of his career, and at the centre of it is a project unlike anything he’s attempted before, a big-budget superhero film with director duo Raj & DK. The collaboration, their first with Salman, has been generating buzz ever since it was first reported, and recent updates suggest the film is inching closer to going on floors.
What is Salman Khan’s superhero film about?
According to Mid-Day, Salman Khan will begin filming with Raj & DK once he wraps his ongoing commitments ‘Monster’ (working title as ‘SVC63’) and ‘Bigg Boss 20’. The report revealed that Raj & DK are currently tied up with ‘Farzi’ 2, the final schedule of which started recently, and will move into pre-production for the Salman film right after. With groundwork expected to kick off around October-end, principal photography was earlier pegged for January 2027. However, more recent trade reports suggest the timeline may have been pushed up, with filming now targeted to begin as early as October 2026 following an extensive pre-visualisation phase. The film has since been given an official title, ‘The Last Hero’. Backed by Atul Agnihotri, with Mythri Movie Makers reportedly coming on board as a studio partner, the project is being envisioned on a scale rarely attempted in Hindi cinema. Rather than a conventional origin story, the film reportedly follows a weary, ageing crime-fighter reluctantly pulled back into action for one final battle which marks a departure from the larger-than-life heroics typically associated with Salman’s screen persona. The report also stated that the makers are said to be in talks with Weta FX, the studio behind Hollywood’s biggest visual effects spectacles, to give the film a global-scale look. There have also been reports suggesting Kareena Kapoor Khan could join the cast, though this remains unconfirmed. For Raj & DK, known for the Family Man and Farzi franchises, this marks a return to the big screen after nearly a decade, their last theatrical directorial outing being ‘A Gentleman’ in 2017.
Salman Khan’s current work slate
Before he steps into the superhero universe, Salman has his hands full. He’s currently shooting Vamshi Paidipally’s action entertainer, reportedly titled ‘Monster’, alongside Nayanthara. The Dil Raju production, backed by Sri Venkateswara Creations, is eyeing an Eid 2027 release. With roughly 50 days of shoot left on that film, Salman will also be balancing ‘Bigg Boss 20’ commitments before turning his focus fully to the Raj & DK project by the year-end.
Salman Khan helps body double Parvez Kazi after health scare
In other news from the sets of his Nayanthara film, Salman’s long-time body double Parvez Kazi recently had a health scare during the ongoing Mumbai shoot. Kazi fell unwell at home on August 6 and was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent a minor procedure. His manager clarified that reports of a heart attack were inaccurate, confirming instead that Kazi is recovering well after the surgery. Salman is said to have personally stepped in to ensure Kazi received prompt medical care, with the manager noting that the actor treats him “like a younger brother.” The production’s stunt schedule has reportedly been reorganised with additional safety measures in place while Kazi recovers, and he is expected to return to the set soon.
