Jaipur: Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) has rolled out a revised and consolidated classification of industries in line with the latest Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines, aiming to simplify environmental approvals, improve transparency and strengthen compliance while promoting ease of doing business across the state.The revised classification has come into immediate effect and supersedes all previous orders, circulars and guidelines related to industrial categorisation. Under the new framework, industries have been classified into Red, Orange, Green and Blue categories based on their pollution potential, providing a uniform, scientific and transparent system for environmental regulation.The updated list also expands the scope of classification by covering several sectors that were either not included earlier or required clearer categorisation. These include cement, ceramics, dairy, compressed biogas (CBG/Bio-CNG) plants, e-waste recycling units, hospitals, hotels and resorts, construction projects, battery manufacturing units, distilleries, metal processing industries, industrial parks and waste treatment and disposal facilities.Officials said the revised framework will help industries better understand the environmental norms applicable to them. “This is expected to simplify the process of obtaining Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate, reduce ambiguity in regulatory procedures and improve compliance with environmental standards,” a senior official said.The board expects the revised classification to strengthen regulatory oversight by aligning environmental requirements with the pollution potential of different industrial activities. Officials said the standardised framework will reduce procedural delays, improve administrative efficiency and make environmental approvals more predictable for investors while aligning Rajasthan’s regulatory system with the latest CPCB norms.
