Rs 99L burglary at G’nagar bungalow; one held

Ahmedabad: A burglary at a locked bungalow in Sector-2C of Gandhinagar resulted in the theft of valuables worth Rs 99 lakh. Police later cracked the case, arrested one accused and recovered property valued at over Rs 1 crore.The bungalow belongs to an NRI businessman residing in Africa, who had visited Gujarat in Jan. Police said he had withdrawn jewellery and cash from a bank locker, fearing cyberfraud, and stored the valuables at his house before returning abroad in March. The theft came to notice when a relative visited the bungalow and found the rear window grill broken. On entering the house, the lockers were found damaged and valuables stolen. While the initial estimate pegged the theft at around Rs 50 lakh, a detailed verification with the owner later put the total value of stolen items at Rs 99 lakh, including gold and silver jewellery and over $7,000. Police said the accused forcibly entered the house and escaped with a digital locker containing the valuables. CCTV footage revealed that the suspect arrived at the scene in a car and fled after committing the burglary. Subsequently, Narol police detected the case and arrested one accused. They recovered gold and silver jewellery worth more than Rs 92 lakh, US dollars valued at around Rs 7 lakh, the car used in the crime, housebreaking tools and the damaged digital locker. The total recovery has been estimated at Rs 1 crore. A case has been registered at Sector-7 police station, and further investigation is in progress.
