New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta Thursday announced an ex gratia assistance of Rs 5 lakh for Rohit Mukhiya, a Khidki Extension resident who sustained serious injuries while rescuing co-workers during the June 3 fire at a B&B in south Delhi.CM also assured that Delhi govt would bear all medical expenses for Mukhiya until his full recovery. As per Gupta’s directions, the West Delhi district magistrate recently visited Mukhiya’s residence and handed over the financial assistance cheque to his family, assuring them of continued govt support.In a letter addressed to Mukhiya, Gupta praised his courage, humanity and sense of duty, describing him as an inspiration for society. She said his actions reflected exceptional character and determination under life-threatening circumstances, and directed officials and doctors to ensure he receives the best possible treatment.Mukhiya was working in the B&B’s kitchen when the fire broke out. According to officials, he first rushed to rescue two colleagues from his village who were trapped on the first floor. With flames and thick smoke blocking escape routes, the three took shelter in a room. Mukhiya then used a bathroom bucket to break a window and create an exit path. He ensured his colleagues escaped first before jumping himself, sustaining severe injuries.
