Lucknow: Doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) have treated a young patient who suffered recurrent shoulder dislocations, with the joint slipping out of position nearly 35-40 times over the past four years.The patient had been experiencing chronic shoulder instability that affected daily activities and physical movement. Medical evaluation and imaging revealed significant bone loss in the shoulder joint.A team from the orthopaedics department, led by Prof Dr Pankaj Agrawal, performed an arthroscopic bone block cerclage procedure to restore joint stability.

The minimally invasive procedure involved placing a bone block at the affected site and securing it using a cerclage fixation technique to address bone loss and reduce the risk of further dislocations.Doctors said the patient is recovering well and has been advised physiotherapy and a phased rehabilitation programme.Head of department Prof Dr Deepak Kumar said bone block cerclage is an effective treatment option for selected patients with recurrent shoulder dislocation associated with bone loss.He added that advanced arthroscopic and sports injury surgery facilities at RMLIMS have enabled the treatment of complex orthopaedic cases. The anaesthesia team included Dr Nidhi, Dr PK Das and other specialists from the anaesthesia department.
