Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday called on governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan and urged the latter to clear pending nominations under the governor’s quota, according to sources.Professor M Kodandaram and Mohammad Azharuddin have been waiting for approval as the duo have received endorsement from the cabinet. These nominations have been pending review at Lok Bhavan since the time of Jishnu Dev Varma, who held the gubernatorial post before he was moved to Maharashtra.Meanwhile, CMO released a statement stating that the governor enquired about the education sector in the state and also made several suggestions. The CM, accompanied by industries minister D Sridhar Babu and Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, stressed the urgent need to approve the nominations, sources said.Azharuddin is approaching the end of his six-month term as a minister without a position in the assembly or the council. If he is not nominated as MLC by the end April, he might have to resign. As the deadline approaches, govt is determined to keep the nomination process on track without further delays.Sources said that during the discussion with the governor, Revanth highlighted prof Kodandaram’s contributions to the statehood movement and constitutional considerations related to Azharuddin’s case. Also, Supreme Court is likely to hear the case of nominated MLCs on April 22.The nomination of MLC under the governor’s quota has had a complicated history. During the last term of BRS, then governor Tamilisai Soundararajan rejected K Chandrasekhar Rao govt’s nominations of Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana. That decision triggered a political and legal conflict. The governor rejected the nominations on the grounds that the nominees had political and corporate backgrounds and lacked significant achievements in literature, arts, science, or social service. The situation escalated after the rejected candidates knocked on the doors of courts. Subsequently, the Congress govt withdrew the earlier nominations and instead sent names of Kodandaram and journalist Amer Ali Khan. However, Supreme Court agreed with Sravan’s argument and asked the Congress govt to reconsider the nominations, which invalidated nominations of Kodandaram and Khan.In response, the Congress govt reassessed the situation and re-nominated prof Kodandaram along with Azharuddin.
