Varanasi: A retired Army soldier was killed and his brother seriously injured after neighbours allegedly attacked them with knives over a path dispute in Sonadih (Doth) village under Ubhaon police station area of Ballia district on Thursday night.The deceased was identified as Amresh Bahadur Singh (45) who died during treatment in Mau. His brother, Manjesh Singh, sustained serious injuries and has been referred to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi for advanced medical care.Additional superintendent of police Dinesh Shukla said the incident occurred around 10 pm. Amresh and Manjesh were near a cowshed when an argument reportedly broke out with their relative, Ramkaran Singh, over the disputed pathway. The brothers allegedly tried to intervene to calm the situation.Police said Ramkaran Singh and family members then attacked both men with knives, leaving them critically wounded. The injured were rushed to Community Health Centre in Siyar and later referred to Mau due to the seriousness of their injuries. Amresh succumbed during treatment, while Manjesh was later shifted to BHU.Senior police officers inspected the spot after receiving information. Based on a complaint filed by Amresh’s daughter, police said an FIR is being registered against five named accused under relevant sections. Three accused have been taken into custody, and three police teams have been deployed to arrest the remaining two.
