Senior inspector Pandit Rejitwad of Wanowrie police said, “The retired IAF officer settled in Pune after retirement.Police said, the suspects sent him a message claiming that he had wrongly mentioned his father’s name in the SIR form and sent him an online correction form. He visited a booth-level officer who encouraged him to reply to the message. The FIR states that the complainant then filled out and submitted the form and called the phone number mentioned in the message. The suspects took details of his Aadhaar Card, PAN card, debit card and other banking details then. The form apparently had remote-access software which was used to gain access to the complainant’s bank account and siphon off Rs10 lakh.“The complainant learnt from bank messages that Rs7 lakh and Rs3 lakh were siphoned off in two consecutive transactions. The money went to eight accounts in all,” Rejitwad said.
