Ludhiana: A city-based activist has raised concerns regarding the Municipal Corporation’s (MC) official website, alleging it is not updated regularly. He stated that in the absence of current information, residents face significant difficulties. The activist, Kuldeep Singh Khaira, claimed it has been observed that the LMC portal lacks frequent updates, particularly concerning the names and contact details of key officers, dealing staff, and the list of designated Public Information Officers (PIOs) and First Appellate Authorities (FAAs).According to Khaira, this negligence causes unnecessary hurdles for citizens trying to access accurate information or exercise their statutory rights under the RTI Act, 2005. He asserted that authorities should issue instructions to the IT wing to ensure timely website maintenance and prominently display the designations and contact details of personnel in crucial posts. Furthermore, he requested that the list of PIOs and FAAs be maintained in strict compliance with Section 5 of the RTI Act.He also demanded the establishment of a periodic review mechanism to verify website content. To streamline this, he suggested that a copy of every transfer or posting order issued within the LMC be simultaneously forwarded to the IT wing for immediate record updates. Khaira noted that such measures would significantly bolster transparency, administrative efficiency, and public access. He expressed hope that the matter would receive immediate consideration and prompt action.Conversely, a senior MC official maintained that the website is updated periodically. The official clarified that a private firm is tasked with managing the portal and stated that if any shortcomings are identified, the firm will be directed to rectify them.MSID:: 130283848 413 |
