Resident docs walk out at SMS hosp over prescription protocol

Jaipur: Patient care at the emergency department of SMS Hospital was briefly disrupted Thursday afternoon after resident doctors walked out following a disagreement over prescription protocols, before returning to duty about 30 minutes later. The issue arose after emergency department head Dr Satish Meena found that several prescription slips lacked basic patient details such as name, age and sex. He directed resident doctors to fill in the information properly, warning that incomplete slips could get mixed up and result in errors in treatment or medicine distribution. The residents objected to the instructions, alleging interference in their work, and went to meet SMS Medical College principal Dr Deepak Maheshwari. During their absence, patients faced temporary inconvenience, though the hospital deployed other doctors to ensure emergency services continued uninterrupted.Following counselling by the principal, the resident doctors resumed duty.Dr Meena said the instructions were issued solely to safeguard patients. “Patients receive medicines based on these slips. If prescriptions get mixed up, it can create serious problems,” he said. Hospital officials said emergency services remained operational throughout the brief protest.
