New Delhi: A college grudge culminated in online harassment after a 22-year-old man misused a woman’s private photographs on social media to create obscene AI-generated images. Police arrested Keshav Bansal, a B.Tech graduate from East Punjabi Bagh, in connection with the case.Police received a complaint from the 22-year-old woman telling that unknown persons had created and circulated obscene AI-generated photographs and videos using her facial images. She told police that she received messages from anonymous Instagram accounts informing her that the morphed content was being circulated on Discord servers. She also alleged that fake accounts were being used to share the content and that she received threatening messages intended to humiliate and harass her.DCP (North) Niharika Bhatt said a case was registered after taking cognisance of the complaint. A police team analysed digital footprints, social media accounts, email IDs and other technical evidence linked to the fake profiles.The investigation revealed links between multiple Instagram, Discord and Gmail accounts allegedly used to create, upload and circulate the objectionable content. Based on the evidence, police identified and arrested Bansal.During questioning, he allegedly told police that he knew the woman from college and was resentful of her after repeated insults. He allegedly accessed photographs from her Instagram account and used AI-based tools to create obscene images, which he uploaded on anonymous Discord servers.Police said Bansal later reposted more explicit AI-generated images and videos created by other users. He allegedly operated multiple fake Instagram, Discord and Facebook accounts and used several Gmail IDs to conceal his identity and facilitate the circulation of the content.
