Gurgaon: The district administration has asked residents to report offices and companies violating the 50% work-from-home rule, providing two helpline numbers to flag offenders. The move comes after it issued show-cause notices to two prominent law firms for allowing more than half their employees to work from office. Residents can call 112 or the district administration’s control room at 928979048 to report these violations.Officials said the administration would also accept complaints about the illegal sale of firecrackers through both numbers.Deputy commissioner Uttam Singh said the Commission for Air Quality Management’s (CAQM) directions, followed by the district administration’s advisory, were binding on all establishments covered by the order. “We are conducting inspections to ensure compliance and urge all organisations to follow the directions. Residents can also report violations,” he added.Officials said complainants could remain anonymous and their identities would be kept confidential. Every complaint would be followed by an inspection of the premises. “Once a complaint is received, a team will inspect the premises. If an establishment is found violating the 50% physical attendance limit, a show-cause notice will be issued,” an official said.On Friday, the administration issued notices to law firms Trilegal and JSA Advocates & Solicitors, both in Sector 42, after inspections found that more than 60% of their employees were present in office, exceeding the prescribed limit. The notices said the alleged violations prima facie amounted to a breach of the deputy commissioner’s Nov 3 order, issued in compliance with CAQM directions. The firms were asked to explain their position, failing which proceedings could be initiated under Section 14 of the CAQM Act, 2021, and other applicable laws.Under the DC’s order, private offices in the city must restrict physical attendance to 50% of their workforce, with the rest working from home. The measure, intended to reduce commuting-related vehicular emissions and curb NCR’s pollution burden, is in force from Nov 5 to 20.
